A multi-split system is the optimal solution when you need to climate-control multiple rooms while keeping a clean facade and minimising the number of outdoor units. Perfect for holiday villas, AirBnB apartments and family homes across Croatia.
In an apartment you often don't have space for multiple outdoor units on the facade — or the building management only permits one. Multi-split solves both problems, keeping your AirBnB or holiday rental looking presentable.
For a multi-storey house or irregular floor plan, multi-split reduces the number of outdoor units and simplifies servicing — one control point for the whole property. Ideal for holiday homes that need heating in winter and cooling in summer.
The most common question before purchase. The difference isn't just the number of units — it affects facade appearance, energy consumption, cost and how the system behaves if something goes wrong. See the key differences in the table below.
| Criterion | Mono-split | Multi-split |
|---|---|---|
| Number of rooms | One | 2–5 (depending on configuration) |
| Number of outdoor units | One per room | ✓ Just one — clean facade |
| Facade appearance | Multiple units = visual clutter | ✓ Minimal visual impact |
| Initial investment | ✓ Lower for 1 room | Lower when comparing cost per room |
| Outdoor unit position | Requires multiple positions | ✓ Single position |
| Energy consumption | Efficient per unit | ✓ More efficient when multiple units run |
| Outdoor unit failure | ✓ Affects only one room | Affects all indoor units |
| Noise (outdoor) | Multiple units = multiple noise sources | ✓ Single noise source |
| Independent control | ✓ Fully independent per unit | ✓ Each indoor unit has its own remote |
Our recommendation: if you're only conditioning one room — go with a mono-split. If you need 2 or more rooms, especially in an apartment block or a house where facade aesthetics matter, multi-split is almost always the better choice.
Multi-split systems are not just about "saving space" — they represent a technologically advanced approach to climate control with measurable benefits.
One outdoor unit instead of 3–5 — the facade retains its architectural integrity, which is especially important in apartment blocks and heritage-protected areas.
Every indoor unit has its own remote. The bedroom can be at 22 °C while the living room is at 25 °C — simultaneously.
The inverter compressor automatically distributes capacity according to demand. A+++ energy class with R32 refrigerant.
The outdoor unit is placed in a single strategically chosen spot. Fewer wall penetrations, fewer pipes, faster installation.
You can connect wall-mounted, cassette, floor-standing and ducted units to the same outdoor unit — different types for different spaces.
Only one outdoor unit needs servicing and gas checks. Lower annual maintenance costs compared to multiple mono-splits.
A growing number of our clients choose a multi-split system primarily for heating, not cooling. The reason is straightforward: modern inverter ACs are air-to-air heat pumps that produce 3–5 kWh of heat from just 1 kWh of electricity. For expats, digital nomads and holiday-home owners in Croatia, this is the most cost-effective way to keep your property warm — whether you're there year-round or managing a rental remotely.
SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) shows how many units of heat the AC delivers from 1 unit of electricity across the entire heating season. SCOP 4 means that from 1 kWh of electricity you get 4 kWh of heat — the other 3 kWh come free from the outside air.
Running a 3.5 kW AC at full capacity, a unit with SCOP 4 consumes only about 0.87 kWh of electricity. At the HEP standard tariff (~€0.10/kWh), that works out at around €0.12–0.15/h — considerably cheaper than gas, heating oil, wood pellets or district heating.
An AC used primarily for winter heating works as a heat pump — extracting heat from cold outdoor air and pumping it inside. Problems arise at very low temperatures (–15 °C and below): the outdoor unit's condenser ices up, the compressor oil thickens, and heating efficiency drops significantly.
The solution is an AC with outdoor unit heaters — small electric heaters that the manufacturer fits at three critical points of the outdoor unit:
Without these heaters the AC will still heat, but at temperatures below –7 °C efficiency drops dramatically — and below –15 °C many models stop operating altogether. For winter heating in inland Croatia (Zagreb, Slavonia, Lika, Gorski kotar), outdoor unit heaters are the minimum requirement.
The biggest advantage of multi-split for heating is that a single outdoor unit heats multiple rooms independently. Each indoor unit is controlled separately — bedroom at 19 °C, living room at 22 °C, hallway off. This level of control is impossible with a gas boiler or conventional central heating system. For holiday-home owners managing rentals on AirBnB or Booking, it also means minimal running costs when the property is unoccupied.
Important: heating requires 20–30% more capacity than cooling for the same space. An AC rated at 3.5 kW cooling typically delivers 4.2–4.5 kW heating at +7 °C, but only 2.8–3.2 kW at –7 °C. That's why heating requires precise sizing with a reserve margin — which we carry out free of charge before every quote, including a thermal loss assessment of your property.
Not sure which model and configuration is right for your home? We'll carry out a free thermal load calculation and suggest 2–3 options — from budget to premium.
All installations are carried out by Zoran Toromanović — F-gas certified installer. All labour and materials included; 24-month warranty on installation work. We travel across the whole of Croatia. English-speaking — no language barrier.
One penetration — brick up to 50 cm or concrete up to 30 cm.
Up to 3 m run between indoor and outdoor unit per indoor unit.
60×40 (or 60×60, 90×60) mm for runs up to 3 m — surface-mounted.
A pair of galvanised brackets suited to your facade.
Professional system evacuation before start-up — essential for long service life.
We register your warranty and walk you through how to use the system and its app.
Send us an enquiry — we'll carry out a free thermal load calculation and recommend the optimal combination of outdoor and indoor units for your property. No obligation. Service in English.

The most common questions from our customers. If anything is unclear — get in touch, we are happy to explain.
A multi-split AC system is an air conditioning system where one outdoor unit serves two or more indoor units. Each indoor unit has its own remote control and can be independently set to cooling or heating mode.
This allows you to air condition an entire apartment or house with one system — without needing multiple outdoor units on the facade.
The price of a multi-split AC with installation in Croatia varies by configuration and brand:
Dual (1+2): from €1,500 including all materials and labour
Trial (1+3): from €2,100
Quadri (1+4): from €2,900
Penta (1+5): from €3,600
Our packages start from €1,036 (unit only), with installation from €500 for dual to €1,100 for penta. Premium brands (Daikin, Mitsubishi) go up to €4,500–5,000 installed.
Mono-split has one outdoor and one indoor unit — it air conditions one room.
Multi-split has one outdoor and 2 to 5 indoor units — it air conditions multiple rooms.
Multi-split saves facade space, looks cleaner and requires fewer wall penetrations, but has a higher initial cost. If the outdoor unit fails, all indoor units stop working — a risk that does not exist with mono-split.
The most common configurations are: dual (1+2), trial (1+3), quadri (1+4) and penta (1+5). Some manufacturers support up to 8 indoor units, but for residential use 5 is a realistic maximum.
If you need to connect more than 5 units (commercial building, hotel, large house), it is better to consider a VRV system.
Basic rule: 1 kW of AC capacity ≈ 10 m² of space. For a 20 m² room a 2.5 kW indoor unit is sufficient; for a 30–40 m² living room you need 3.5–4.2 kW; for 50 m² you need 5 kW.
The outdoor unit capacity must cover the sum of all indoor unit capacities (with a small reserve since they rarely all run at full power simultaneously).
For a precise calculation we provide a free thermal load and cooling load analysis — taking into account orientation, glazing, insulation and the climate conditions at your location.
Modern multi-split systems with inverter technology and R32 refrigerant are classified as A+++, meaning very low power consumption.
When only one indoor unit is running, consumption is about 20–30% higher than an equivalent mono-split AC. However, when 2 or more units run simultaneously, multi-split saves electricity because one inverter compressor serves all indoor units.
Standard installation includes: one wall penetration (brick up to 50 cm, concrete up to 30 cm), up to 3 m of pre-insulated copper pipes per unit, PVC trunking, outdoor unit brackets, condensate drain pipe, electrical connection, all consumables, system evacuation (vacuum), commissioning and user training.
Prices: dual €500, trial €700, quadri €900, penta €1,100.
Yes — we operate across all of Croatia. Delivery is free for all of continental Croatia (islands by arrangement).
Our office is in Zagreb (Ulica Zlatarova Zlata 16), and we regularly install in Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar, Slavonski Brod, Karlovac, Sisak, Varaždin, Pula, Šibenik and other cities.
Yes — for an average apartment or well-insulated house, an inverter AC with SCOP 4–5 is currently the most cost-effective way to heat. From 1 kWh of electricity you get 3–5 kWh of heat (the rest comes free from outdoor air).
At the HEP blue tariff, one hour of AC running at 3.5 kW costs approximately €0.12–0.15 — cheaper than gas, heating oil and pellets. The investment in a dual or trial multi-split heating system pays back within 3–5 heating seasons.
Important: for heating as the primary function, choose models with outdoor unit heaters and an operating range of at least –15 °C.
These are ACs where the manufacturer has built small electric heaters at 3 points into the outdoor unit: the base plate (prevents ice in the bottom), the compressor crankcase (keeps oil fluid) and the heat exchanger (faster defrost).
Result: the AC reliably heats even when outside temperatures drop to –15 °C to –25 °C, without loss of efficiency. Without these heaters an AC at –10 °C uses 2× more electricity and is prone to freezing damage.
Recommendation: if you are heating continental Croatia (Zagreb, Slavonia, Lika, Gorski kotar) — you must have an AC with outdoor unit heaters. For the coast (Dalmatia, Istria, Kvarner) and mild winters, a standard model is sufficient.
Budget models (from ~€700): Maxon, Airwell, Hyundai, Korel. SCOP 3.8–4.1. Reliable heating to about –7 to –15 °C. Ideal for the coast or as a supplement to existing heating.
Mid-range (~€1,000): LG, Haier, Midea, Fuji. SCOP 4.2–4.6. Heating to –15 °C, most have base plate and crankcase heaters. Best price-to-savings ratio for year-round heating.
Premium (~€1,500+): Daikin Perfera, Mitsubishi Zubadan, Panasonic Heatcharge, Samsung WindFree. SCOP 4.8–5.1, heating to –25 °C with full capacity at –15 °C. The right choice when the AC is the main heat source for the home.
We work with over 15 brands, from premium to budget:
Premium: Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Bosch.
Mid-range: Haier, Hisense, Gree, Midea, Korel, Feroterm/Terma Air.
Budget: Maxon, Azuri.
All systems we offer use eco-friendly R32 refrigerant and inverter technology.
Product warranty: 2–5 years depending on manufacturer. Daikin offers free extension to 5 years through their Stand-By-Me portal.
Installation warranty: 24 months in writing.
All servicing and refrigerant top-ups are carried out by our F-gas certified technicians.
Yes — this is one of the key advantages of multi-split. You can connect to the same outdoor unit:
• Wall-mounted units (most common for residential)
• Cassette units into a suspended ceiling (offices, living rooms)
• Floor-standing units (where there is no wall space)
• Ducted units (concealed distribution)
Each must be compatible with the chosen outdoor unit — we help you design a consistent and functional system.
R32 is an eco-friendly refrigerant that became the industry standard in 2026. Three key advantages:
• Lower environmental impact — GWP (Global Warming Potential) three times lower than the old R410A
• Higher efficiency — better heat transfer coefficient
• Smaller charge — the system uses about 20% less refrigerant for the same output
All our multi-split systems use R32.
For heating as the primary heat source in continental Croatia we recommend:
Daikin Perfera (FTXM/3MXM series) — SCOP up to 5.1, reliable heating to –25 °C, the industry reference. daikinkli.me
Mitsubishi Electric Zubadan — patented Zubadan technology, full capacity at –15 °C, operating range to –25 °C. mitsubishi.com.hr
Vaillant VAF 8 — German quality, SCOP up to 4.8, 5-year warranty, excellent option for cold climates. vaillant.com.hr
Panasonic Heatcharge (CU-Z series) — SCOP up to 5.0, VZ Heatcharge indoor series. panasonickli.me
For milder coastal winters, LG, Bosch or Vivax with SCOP 4.2–4.5 are also sufficient.
Daikin Multi+ (2/3/4/5MXM series):
• Price: €1,737 (Dual 4 kW) to €4,250 (Penta 9 kW)
• Warranty: 5 years through Stand-By-Me registration
• Special: Bluevolution R32, heating to –25 °C with Perfera indoor units, SCOP up to 5.1
• Indoor options: Sensira, Comfora, Perfera, Emura, Stylish (each a separate line with its own specs)
LG Multi Split (MU2R/MU3R/MU4R/MU5R series):
• Price: €1,413 (Dual 4.1 kW) to €1,795 (Penta 8.8 kW) — significantly more affordable
• Warranty: 2 years standard
• Special: excellent for combined heating and cooling, SCOP 4.3–4.6
• Indoor options: Artcool Mirror, Standard Plus, cassette
Conclusion: LG is 30–50% cheaper with solid performance. Daikin is worth it for demanding heating in cold weather — the difference is noticeable below –10 °C.
A 60 m² apartment typically requires a Dual or Trial configuration — one living room and 1–2 bedrooms:
Budget option — Bosch CL5000M 41 Dual (4.1 kW): €920 (outdoor) + indoor units + installation ~€500 = total ~€1,700–2,000
Mid-range — Vivax COFM-28 AERI Dual (5.3 kW): €920 + installation = ~€1,800
Premium — Daikin 3MXM52A9 Trial (5.2 kW): €2,275 + indoor units + installation €700 = ~€3,500–4,000
For cooling only a 60 m² apartment on the Dalmatian coast, a Dual (2+1) is sufficient — for continental Croatia and heating as the primary source we recommend Trial (3+1) to cover each room with its own unit.
Yes — for continental Croatia (Zagreb, Slavonia, Lika, Gorski kotar) where temperatures fall to –15 °C and below, we offer specialist models:
Daikin Multi+ with Perfera indoor units — standard heating to –25 °C without capacity reduction. Base plate, crankcase and heat exchanger heaters built in. daikinkli.me
Mitsubishi Electric Zubadan — unique Zubadan compressor that heats at full capacity at –15 °C, operating range to –25 °C. mitsubishi.com.hr
Vaillant VAF 8 — designed for cold climates, heating to –20 °C. vaillant.com.hr
At temperatures below –10 °C standard models without outdoor unit heaters are not adequate — they use 2× more electricity and are prone to freezing failures.
Warranty varies by brand. Here is a summary:
5 years warranty: Vivax COFM AERI, Korel Multi, Maxon, Qzen (Alfasol), Bosch Climate 5000i, Vaillant VAF 8
5 years on registration: Daikin (Stand-By-Me portal), Panasonic
2–3 years: Samsung, LG, Hisense, Olimpia Splendid, Azuri, Haier, Midea, Terma Air, Airwell, Bergen
Installation warranty: All our installations come with 24 months written warranty. All servicing is carried out by our F-gas certified technicians.
Tip: for longer warranty without extra cost choose Bosch, Vivax, Vaillant or Korel — all 5 years without registration.
